A little bit of wildflower inspiration....

Chelsea may be over, but no doubt you’ve been inspired to get outside, put your gardening gloves on and make some changes in your own garden. Here at Summerdown we’re passionate about the English countryside and our natural habitat. That’s why over the years we’ve been working closely with international charity Plantlife on conversation projects to protect the wildflowers on our Hampshire farm. Wildflowers_-_geograph.org.uk_-_473362 Sadly, Britain’s wild flowers are disappearing. They are being lost at a rate of up to nearly one species per year per county, and the rate of loss is accelerating. And when wild flowers disappear, so does all the wildlife that relies on them. Plantlife is working to save wild flowers and bring back the colour to our countryside. They’re working on conservation projects across England, Wales and Scotland, with the public, landowners, Government, volunteers and in our nature reserves. We want to help them encourage a better understanding of wild flowers, and one way we can do this is by growing them in our gardens. If you’d like to start your own wildflower garden, Plantlife Botanist Dr Trevor Dines has a fantastic blog where you can find out all about how to get started, with hints and tips you can tailor to your needs. Trevor Dines-WEB We asked Dr Trevor for a review of our unique collection “Plantlife, the international charity conserving wild flowers, plants and fungi, is delighted to be working with Summerdown Mint. At Plantlife we support the sustainable use of native, wild plants and that’s why we feel Summerdown Mint products are special. A hybrid between Water Mint and Spearmint, Black Mitcham Mint has a special blend of natural oils – redolent of flower-filled water meadows – that make it the perfect ‘fresh’ ingredient for soaps and hand washes.” – Dr Trevor Dines, Botanical Specialist, Plantlife.
