The bulbs are out, the days are longer and we're starting to get a spring in our step. It's time to shed winter from our homes, have a good old spring clean and refresh our homes for the new season. One way to do this is to bring the outside in with a home fragrance – choose a clean, fresh, uplifting fragrance like Summerdown’s mint and lemongrass. Available as a reed diffuser and candle. Another way is to make small updates to your home furnishings. We caught up with Sarah Hazebroek, founder of the Huddle Collection who we've long been admiring from afar due to her colourful interiors and beautiful prints, to hear how she likes to refresh her home for the new season. |
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START THE HUDDLE COLLECTION?Huddle Collection was borne out of a love for colour and pattern and the old fashioned, traditional skill of hand block painting. I had spent too many years in office based jobs and as I was approaching my 50th birthday I felt it was high time I took the plunge, got creative and set up Huddle!

HOW DO YOU MAKE A HOUSE A HOME?My love for interiors has always been there – and a house should very much be a home. Treasured possessions collected over time all add that homely feel. With Huddle I wanted to create a relaxed mismatched look, sensibly priced and one that can be added to with a cushion here or a beautiful lampshade there. Injecting colour and personality along the way.

How do you bring the outside in?The change in the seasons - especially as we come into Spring and Summer is a lovely time to reawaken the house. It shouldn’t be just the garden that comes to life! I love seeing the daffodils appear but my favourite spring flower had to be tulips. Arranged in a beautiful jug or vase in different places around the house, they personify spring and signal the start of longer days - finally!

DO YOU USE HOME FRAGRANCE?Yes I do, candles and diffusers. I love to switch up the scents in my kitchen with the new season – bye bye heady winter smells and over to a lighter fragrance – I love the mint & lemongrass especially – is another longed-for step towards spring.

How can soft furnishings adapt to the seasons? It doesn't have to be major changes, but updating your colour scheme with a a few accessories like a new table cloth, or changing the tones of your scatter cushions from earthy reds to blues and greens, can make a huge difference. This one screams Spring to me - and Summerdown!

And finally, there’s nothing nicer than snuggling up in a new quilt with a relaxing mint tea. It’s a great way to end a summers evening …. Maybe after one or two glasses of rose! |
