OUR PEPPERMINT & DISTILLATION
Around 70 acres of English Black Mitcham peppermint grow on our Hampshire farm. Every plant is descended from a handful of cuttings brought home in the early 1990s, and every one of them is proof that some things are worth the trouble.
Black Mitcham is not an easy crop. It is slow to establish, particular about soil and unforgiving of shortcuts. Many growers won't touch it. It demands patience, careful research and a farmer willing to fail a few times before getting it right. That difficulty is exactly why so little of it exists today and why what does exist is worth paying attention to.
We believe our peppermint is the finest in the UK, and we're working to prove it to the rest of the world too. Not because we say so, but because of what's in the leaf itself: a flavour and aroma that are refined, rounded and unmistakably its own, shaped by a century of acclimatising to Hampshire's soil and sky. Piercing. Pure. Intensely nostalgic. Nothing like the sharp, one-note mint most people think they know.
Everything happens here, on this land. We plant it, harvest it and distil it ourselves, which means we control every stage that decides what ends up in our products. The oil is steam distilled shortly after harvest, capturing the leaf's essential character before it has any chance to fade. That oil is then rested and barrel aged, a step most producers skip, allowing the flavour to round out and deepen over time in a way that fresh distillation alone can't achieve.
The result is an oil pure enough to transform chocolate, elevate tea, uplift a room or inspire a maker who could have chosen any peppermint oil in the world but chose ours instead. Our own chocolates, teas and body, bath & home fragrance range are built on it. So is a growing list of makers who share the same standard for craft as we do, because the best peppermint in the world shouldn't only exist inside one brand's products. It should be shared with anyone serious enough to deserve it.
This is not peppermint grown for speed or scale. It is grown for character, distilled for purity and aged for depth, on the belief that peppermint done properly is one of the finest things a farm can grow.
